September Featured Artist: Lauren Ann Paul

September’s featured artist is textile designer and artist, Lauren Ann Paul. Being a textile artist Lauren creates many things for Hatch; screen-printed tea towels, hand-stamped fabric buckets ,tote bags and head bands made with her fabric design, wrap bracelets made from leather remnants and vintage bone buttons and most recently, you can see where her vision gets its start with her paintings. Many of her patterns evolve from nature. Seedpods, plants and vines come to mind.

In Lauren’s words; “I create because I am happiest when my hands are busy. I enjoy seeing a vision become a tangible object. I am inspired by nature, specifically the landscapes near Lake Michigan. I enjoy the energy that can be created from mixing color and pattern. I think it is important to love the things you surround yourself with. I strive to make things that are both useful and easy to love.”

Stop in anytime this month to see the expanded selection of her work and join us Friday, September 13th from 6-9pm for Lauren’s artist reception. Good times and refreshments will be served.

August Featured Artist: Photographer Bethany Helzer

The August featured artist is photographer, Bethany Helzer. Bethany grew up in the Detroit area, finding herself intrigued by the beautiful architecture of a city in neglect, and wanted to document this “urban decay” before it disappeared. Now living in Madison, her focus has shifted to our city’s new and old architecture as well as the nature that surrounds us.

Bethany will have her work showcased at Hatch Art House from August 1st-31st with an artist reception Friday, August 9th from 6-9pm. Refreshments and good times will be served. Facebook Event Page

July Happenings at Hatch

This month at Hatch we are showcasing (our first ever) EcoSculpt Art Show for the entire month of July.

EcoSculpt is a small sculptures art show, with an upcycling theme along with affordable pricing. Every piece is under $200 and all artwork incorporates upcycled materials.

As always, Hatch only represents Wisconsin based artists with the majority from the Madison area.
The artist reception will be Friday, July 12th from 6-9pm. Most artists will be in attendance to talk about their work and refreshments will be served.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page for  photos of the artwork in the show!

I’m also honored to be the judge for the Art Fair Off the Square this year! It is put on by the Wisconsin Alliance of Artists and Craftspeople (WAAC). All the artists involved must live in Wisconsin…just like HATCH! This is happening July 13th and 14th. I’ll be there on Saturday with my clipboard in hand; please say hello if you see me:)
