September featured artist: Emily Maryniak

September featured artist is Emily Maryniak. Emily is a Madison printmaker working mainly with relief and silkscreen prints. She says; “My favorite part of both processes is that moment when you first see the image after printing; when you peel it from the block on the press or when you first lift up the screen.  There is a little bit of mystery and magic involved in this historic process and I feel so lucky to experience it! “
Emily’s artist statement:
All of my art comes from nature.  I strive to capture the essence of the landscape, person, animal or object that I am drawing.  For me, drawing is thinking; it helps me to clarify the things I see in my environment and then allows me to share them with others.  I then make prints from my drawings which allow me to experiment with layers of color and line quality. Recently, the subject matter of my prints have been the things I appreciate around me in Madison; the the rows of houses, the boats sailing on Lake Mendota, the effect of wind on the water,  a soybean farm field with silo that has been standing for generations, and fresh produce grown in the soil from a tiny seed.  I hope that my art encourages others to notice and appreciate these same things in nature.

Emily will have her work showcased at Hatch Art House from September 1st-30th with an artist reception Friday, September 12th from 6-9pm.  Facebook event page

August Featured Artist: Photographer Ryan Mense

The Hatch Art House August featured artist is Madison photographer, Ryan Mense. In Ryan’s words; “I’m a Wisconsinite born and raised, currently residing in the state capitol of Madison. I began capturing photos in the northwoods, which really helps to explain my fascination with nature subjects and landscapes. Now that I’m living in downtown Madison, my work has increasingly become more well-rounded, while still seeking out the small details I grew up looking for.
My goal is to create art that obeys a technical workflow for impeccable quality and refined aesthetics, while also interpreting my subjects in a way that best reflects my feelings and vision. My work comprises of using professional photographic equipment to best capture the scenes that I spend a lot of time searching and waiting for. I process and adjust the images in a way that best expresses the emotion I experienced while on location. Because every detail of the image is explored in processing, the final product is deliberate and fully-realized.”
Ryan will have his photos showcased at Hatch Art House from August 1st-31st with an artist reception Friday, August 8th from 6-9pm. Refreshments will be served.
