April Featured Artist: Steve Wirtz

The Hatch Art House featured artist for April is paper mache sculpture, Steve Wirtz. Titled: “TAXidermy” in honor of the dreaded tax due date, April 15th, Steve has created trophy like, paper mache animal sculptures using old tax forms. In Steve’s words: “Finishing my taxes for the year is like landing a big fish, or bagging a big game trophy. It’s an accomplishment. They say nothing is certain except death and taxes. Well, I say all I know is life and taxes, because no animals were harmed in the making of this exhibit. I hope you enjoy it, and many happy returns.”
The artist reception will be Friday, April 11th 6-9pm and the exhibit will run from April 1st to April 30th.

Next up for the weekend; Art Fair Off the Square, Saturday the 14th 9-6 and Sunday the 15th 10-5. Hatch artist, Steve Wirtz have been selected (Yes, he’s THAT good…)  to be their FEATURED ARTIST! Steve makes fun-filled paper mache sculptures (think whimsical animals) and also large wire sculptures. (Look up next time you’re in the shop.)  The main thing to remember about this show is that it showcases Wisconsin based artists only. What?! So does HATCH! 🙂 http://www.artcraftwis.org/afos.html

Art Fair OFF the Square, Steve Wirtz; Featured Artist

Also this Saturday and Sunday we have Art Fair ON the Square. This year I have been chosen as one of the four jurors for this ENORMOUS art fair. Of course, we’ve already completed the task of narrowing down about 1600 applicants to 450 or so. Saturday we will be judging the artists up close and personal for artist awards including “Best of Show”! Funny thing…I haven’t received any fruit baskets yet;) Kidding. Really… This show is filled with amazing talent from around the country. http://www.mmoca.org/events/artfair/Artists.php
