April Featured Artist: Steve Wirtz

The Hatch Art House April featured artist is Steve Wirtz. His work will be showcased all month long with an opening reception Friday, April 13th from 6-9pm. Refreshments will be served. http://www.facebook.com/events/185085614942215/

Steve Wirtz is an award-winning papier mache’ sculptor. He often creates sculptures that have humorous themes. Steve creates his sculptures in his Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based studio.
In Steve’s words; “I guess I’ve always had a fear of being boring; and stepping on something icky while wading barefoot. The medium I work in alleviates my first fear. My art explores the second. My current sculptures are the result of 20 years of experience with laminated paper (a form of papier mache’) techniques. It gives me great reward to make people laugh. When a collector tells me how they smile every time they look at their Wirtz original, I realize what keeps me going, and why I keep taking my shoes off before stepping in the creek.”
