Small SQUARE art works….have fun creating!

ecosquared 2015

As many of you know, here at Hatch Art House we have a few goals that we strive for on a daily basis.

Mainly, when you buy something from Hatch, you know it’s being produced locally. Our rule is that you must reside in Wisconsin to be a Hatch artist. Although, the majority of our 50+ artists live in the Madison area.  We have an emphasis on repurposing, upcycling and recycling…  if we can keep things out of the landfill and give it a new life in art, we’ve done a great thing. We strive to offer something for everyone at affordable prices in a casual and creatively-charged environment.

A couple years ago, Hatch embarked into the world of hosting art shows! Hatch being a small space, a SMALL WORKS art show seemed appropriate; thus EcoSquared Art Show. Also, an upcycling theme along with affordable pricing to continue with the Hatch emphasis.  The show will run for the month of January 2015, with an artist reception on Friday, January 10th.  The deadline for entry is Sunday, December 14th. The rest of the dates to know are listed on the forms below.

The guidelines are listed in the printable forms, which I encourage you to pass on to anyone you think would be interested.  This show will be juried by myself (Tammy Schreiter) mainly to make sure all entries fit into the scheme and follow the guidelines. As well as being a painter and dabbler of many other art forms, I most recently was a juror of the 2013 Art Fair Off the Square,  2012 MMoCA Art Fair on the Square and the MMoCA 2011 Holiday Art Fair.

If you’ve submitted your artwork to Hatch in the past, I encourage you to enter this show. This is your opportunity to be a Hatch artist!

Please use this page for questions, concerns and comments about the EcoSquared Art Show.

September featured artist: Emily Maryniak

September featured artist is Emily Maryniak. Emily is a Madison printmaker working mainly with relief and silkscreen prints. She says; “My favorite part of both processes is that moment when you first see the image after printing; when you peel it from the block on the press or when you first lift up the screen.  There is a little bit of mystery and magic involved in this historic process and I feel so lucky to experience it! “
Emily’s artist statement:
All of my art comes from nature.  I strive to capture the essence of the landscape, person, animal or object that I am drawing.  For me, drawing is thinking; it helps me to clarify the things I see in my environment and then allows me to share them with others.  I then make prints from my drawings which allow me to experiment with layers of color and line quality. Recently, the subject matter of my prints have been the things I appreciate around me in Madison; the the rows of houses, the boats sailing on Lake Mendota, the effect of wind on the water,  a soybean farm field with silo that has been standing for generations, and fresh produce grown in the soil from a tiny seed.  I hope that my art encourages others to notice and appreciate these same things in nature.

Emily will have her work showcased at Hatch Art House from September 1st-30th with an artist reception Friday, September 12th from 6-9pm.  Facebook event page
