April Featured Artist; Rebekah Simensen

The April featured artist is Madison painter and illustrator, Rebekah Simensen, aka “Ninjagrl”. Rebekah tells the story of Ninjagrl and her pet turtle through her paintings. Ninjagrl is based on the real-life story of Rebekah and her cat named Turtle. Turtle proved to be a loyal companion and unending source of inspiration, in addition, her time spent as a volunteer at the Seattle Aquarium opened her eyes to the wonders of the ocean world. She hopes to emulate the aquarium’s mission in her own, small way – to inspire conservation of our marine environment by providing glimpses of the amazing creatures that live there in her unique ninja style.
Rebekah’s artist reception will be held Friday, April 10th from 6-9pm. The show will run for the month of April.

Fall Gallery Night Celebrations

The featured artist for October is linocut artist, Juliet Darken… an illustrator, storyteller, designer, fine artist, and Madison native. She creates whimsical, yet sophisticated pieces with traditional relief printmaking techniques, sometimes with small additions of collage and graphite. This involves a complex process of reversing the original design, carving, and printing each color as a separate layer. In her opinion, the most important thing for people to learn is how to communicate, and she enjoys adding her personal visual language to the human conversation.
Juliet’s artwork will be showcased from October 1-31st. The artist reception coincides with the MMoCA citywide Gallery Night, October 5 from 5-9pm. Refreshments will be served.

Juliet Darken, August Featured Artist

The featured Hatch Art House artist for August is Juliet Darken… an illustrator, designer, fine artist, and Madison native.  She creates whimsical, yet sophisticated pieces with traditional relief printmaking techniques, sometimes with small additions of collage and graphite. This involves a complex process of reversing the original design, carving, and printing each color as a separate layer. In her opinion, the most important thing for people to learn is how to communicate, and she enjoys adding her personal visual language to the human conversation.
