Gallery Night With Alyssa Martz of Mud Garden Studio

For the month May, Hatch Art House will be showcasing the artwork of local potter, Alyssa Martz. Alyssa’s artist statement reads, “I’m a potter and ceramic artist working in Wisconsin’s scenic Driftless Region. My studio practice intersects rustic modern clay work and traditional folk aesthetics. I embrace the charm of the intuitive in my making process and relish all the little idiosyncrasies that develop in a hand-made object. Each piece celebrates human touch, be it a ruffled edge here, or a splotch of colored glaze there. My pottery is sure to bring a smile to your face and charm to your space.”
The artist reception will be coinciding with the MMoCA Gallery Night, Friday, May 6th, 2022 from 5-9 pm, and the show will run through May 31st.

November Featured Artist; JD Wolfe Pottery

Jennifer Darner Wolfe’s stoneware pottery speaks of quiet connections and modern lifestyles. She’s inspired by the Scandinavian roots of the Wisconsin she grew up in, big Wyoming skies with sagebrush dotted hills where her children were born, and the nesting comfort of those she loves. Her personal voice in clay is formed through the playfulness of the process and her love of minimalist design. Jennifer’s ceramics will be showcased at Hatch for the month of November, with an artist reception Friday, November 11th from 6-9pm. Refreshments will be served.

February Featured Artist; Aly Wheeler

The featured February artist for Hatch Art House is Madison ceramics artist, Aly Wheeler. Alison Wheeler grew up in the beautiful Driftless area of southwest Wisconsin. She spent most of her childhood outdoors, climbing trees and working on her parents small organic farm. So naturally, the outdoors is where a lot of her inspiration is found. Her pottery is playful, yet functional. Alison enjoys working with her hands, and finds that every piece created is an individual. She used slip trailing, carving, and hand building techniques to make each piece as unique as possible.

Aly will have her work showcased at Hatch Art House from February 1-29 with an artist reception Friday, February 12th from 6-9pm. Refreshments will be served.

October Featured Artist; Lisa Hepburn Ceramics & Gallery Night!

The October featured artist is Ceramics artist Lisa Hepburn. Lisa’s current work is informed by both a decades love pre-Colombian Mexican Pottery and a more recent obsession with all things mid-century modern. (A friend puts her design aesthetic this way: Mixtec meets Mad Men). Most of her work is built by hand with slab and coil methods. Most recently she has been experimenting with sculptural vase forms with unexpected negative space. While much of her current work is functional, she strives to create a sculptural sensibility in each piece. Above all, her work is meant to be touched.

Lisa will have her work showcased at Hatch Art House from October 1st-31st with an artist reception Friday, October 4th from 5-9pm coinciding with the city-wide MMoCA Gallery Night. Refreshments will be served along with an outside performance by singer/songwriter Karen Wheelock.

Check out the event page here on Facebook.

And Karen Wheelock’s Facebook page here for a chance to listen to her music!

Pick up Gallery Night maps at Hatch or on MMoCA’s website.
