Purposeful Pottery | Fall Gallery Night 2025

Celebrating Functional Ceramics by Wisconsin Artists

Join us in November for a group show celebrating pottery made for a purpose! Six of our Hatch Art House potters will be showing off their functional art – mugs, bowls, vases, and more all in their own unique styles.

Come view the work of Jenny Blasen, Christine Konen, Mud Garden Studio, Mary Pulliam, Gloria Van Dixhorn, and JD Wolfe at Hatch Art House for the month of November. And join us for an artist reception coinciding with MMoCA’s Gallery Night on Friday, November 7th from 5-9pm.

Artist Reception | Friday, November 7th 5-9pm

Hatch Art House | 1248 Williamson St, Madison, WI

Jenny Blasen | @jennyblasen

When creating my functional pottery I take inspiration from everyday objects. I craft each piece by hand using different textures and rich fluid colors to create elevated useful pieces.

Christine Konen | @konencreations

My body of work explores the relationship between nature and light. Each piece has a significance in adding light to the world – from its idea through the process of creation. I wish for my work to invoke respect for the earth in which we rely and for the light of the good to continue fighting to sustain her.

Mud Garden Studio | @mudgardenstudio

I make lighthearted, quirky ceramics for your home. Using earthenware clay and majolica glazing techniques, I create hand-built and wheel thrown pieces that are inspired by folk art, flowers, and good food shared with friends.

Mary Pulliam | @mary.from.the.prairie

I’ve been doing ceramics about fifteen years. My goal is to make serviceable, comfortable pieces that will actually be used in their new homes. I try to make the glazes appealing, using bright color and flowing shapes often drawn from nature.

Gloria Van Dixhorn | @gloria_loves_clay

Functional ceramic art . Each piece is thrown, trimmed and decorated by hand with original images. Then glazed and fired in a wood kiln built by myself and 3 artist women friends.

JD Wolfe | @jdwolfepottery

JD Wolfe focuses on small scale pottery with natural influences.

Gallery Night With Alyssa Martz of Mud Garden Studio

For the month May, Hatch Art House will be showcasing the artwork of local potter, Alyssa Martz. Alyssa’s artist statement reads, “Iโ€™m a potter and ceramic artist working in Wisconsinโ€™s scenic Driftless Region. My studio practice intersects rustic modern clay work and traditional folk aesthetics. I embrace the charm of the intuitive in my making process and relish all the little idiosyncrasies that develop in a hand-made object. Each piece celebrates human touch, be it a ruffled edge here, or a splotch of colored glaze there. My pottery is sure to bring a smile to your face and charm to your space.”
The artist reception will be coinciding with the MMoCA Gallery Night, Friday, May 6th, 2022 from 5-9 pm, and the show will run through May 31st.
